Timer freezes when screen shuts off. VERY intrusive ads

This timer has a major flaw in that it cant run in the background. You can not use it without having it open with screen on, which means you cant keep it in your pocket while you run or work out.
The ads in this app are A LOT more intrusive than similar apps too. You will often have to watch 5 seconds of a video ad every time you use the app or change any setting. Not what I want to be doing in the middle of a workout.
